Who teaches at Polytechnique?
Polytechnique courses of education depends on three different positions: professors, teaching responsible and lecturers. Professors and teaching loaded dependent of another union, the APEP. The majority of courses given at Polytechnique does not are given by lecturers.
Polytechnique lecturers are different from other universities charged by their diverse origin. A significant number of lecturers are graduate students, for whom this work is a gateway to a career in teaching. By the needs of applied engineering sciences, a significant number of lecturers work in the industry at the same time they give them and of course loads. Finally, another important part of being lecturer is working full time at Polytechnique.

What is in the agreement in principle?
The complete text of the agreement in principle is available at the bottom of this page, in French. Among all the articles of the agreement, we outline these specific elements.
First, the lecturers' experience is now taken into account using a system of points. A course of 45 hours correspond to one point, 22.5 hours of teaching correspond to half a point, and so on. These points will be cumulated starting from January 2005.
To avoid episodes of nepotism which the union had to fight in the last few years during course attribution, the courses will be associated with required competencies. The union can however write a grievance if the required competencies are abusive or discriminatory.
Classes will be distributed to lecturers with points, with a priority to those with the most points for the given course. On the first round of assignation, each lecturer with points will get one class. On the second round, each lecturer will get two classes. On the third round, each lecturer will get one class, for the maximum of four classes for one semester. It is also possible to distribute the classes using another system if all the lecturers with points for the course agree.
As with other universities in Quebec, the employer can remove some classes from the attribution process to give it to specific persons. A maximum of 5% of classes given to lecturers can be assigned as the employer see fit. A maximum of 15% of classes given to lecturers can be assigned to students of Polytechnique. This 15% reserve is higher than what we find elsewhere in Quebec and reflects the importance Polytechnique gives to student lecturers.
The agreement includes a closing of the wage gap between Polytechnique and other universities, through a 22% wage increase at the moment of signature. Another 2% raise is planned for May 1st, 2018. Finally, on May 1st, 2019, there will be no wage increase (0%). The raises of 2018 and 2019 follow the PSG ("Politique salariale gouvernementale"), the policy of the Quebec government negociated with public workers, which did not manage to obtain the inflation for 2019.
However, the employer agreed to give us a retroactive raise for the classes given between April 1st, 2015 and the moment when the collective agreement is signed. The lecturers during this period will obtain 300$ per 45 hours of course given. This amount is computed on the pro rata of the hours given. For instance, a lecturer doing a 3h replacement would obtain 20$.
The agreement also specifies that lecturer will have access to one sick day per semester without justification. In case of a longer sick leave, and with a medical certificate proof, a lecturer can obtain 85% of its salary until the end of the semester.
The agreement also improves the parental leave of the government of Quebec (RQAP, "régime québécois d'assurance parentale"). The RQAP offers 70% of the salary for workers during their parental leave. The agreement specifies that the employer will pay the difference between the 70% offered by the government and 88% until the end of the semester.
